Did you get your melanistic yet?
I was tying a bunch of Sparrows and had to go into my pheasant box. Here are some pictures of an unpicked melanistic cock skin and flank feathers along with a picture of some melanistic hen flank.
The hen skin is a prized possession but is well picked over.
The photos do no justice to the iridescence of the cock skin or flank feather.
The most iridescence feather I have found is that from a muscovy duck. It outshines starling.

Oooo…very nice! Thank you for sharing the photos. What a great range of different feathers to play with.

I have not bought one yet. I recently bought a batch of hen saddles from Dette (impulse buy), so need to wait a while before buying new stuff.

So Ray, I had a thought:
Seeing as you really need a melanistic pheasant, and Mrs. Letumgo is in avid birder, why not procure a melanistic chick from one of the many hatcheries online offering them? It would be a huge win-win-win for the Tucker household.
Mrs. Letumgo gets to add another feathered friend to her life list, the family get a pet, and you get to pluck whatever feathers you need whenever you want!!

And you can update the forum with the trials and tribulations of raising a melanistic pheasant!

😆🤣😂

Dana - I’m going to try to talk my niece into raising one. She already raises chickens, so there is a chance she will agree… :D

That bird is beautiful! It seems surreal in its amazing colors and super looking soft-hackles! Tworod, what a score!
