capercaillie hen for fly tying

Hi into the round of experts.

I got two capercaillie hens from a hunter friend. Very interesting feathers for fly tying I think. Anybody having an idea which patterns these traditionally where used in?

I've never heard of any traditional patterns with them but they look to have some great duns, browns and "peacock" color feathers on the cock birds.

Wow! That is a beautiful bird skin. There is a wide range of uses for the feathers on this bird, ranging from small wet flies (soft hackles/flymphs/NC spiders/Tenkara kebari), winged wets (using the primary feathers), and
full dress streamers (cheek feathers)...

Get busy and show us what you can create.
