This is my attempt ( or version!) of the winged march brown from the Shaner collection. Untried as yet.
Hook. Mustad #12 short shank sneck.
Body. Pearsall's silk, touch dubbed with hares ear with yellow silk rib.
Wing. Partridge hackle
Legs. Ditto, lashed and hacked!

I love the look of the origional, just looks a killer. Sorry again for the poor quality pic but trying to get my daughters iPad out of her hand is like removing a gun from Charlton Heston's!!

Love the look of these sneck hooks. Less than $5.00 for a 100 from ken hook.

Thanks Ray. I'm sorry about the picture quality. The weather here in Ireland has been unbelievable this summer. Brief run-down;
April......2 weeks dry weather.
May.......4 days dry ( not consecutive )
June......5 days dry ( not consecutive )
July.......3 days dry ( not consecutive )
August....0 days dry so far.
Dry day means 24 hrs with no rain.
I've lived In Ireland for 25 years, this is the worst summer so far, by a long shot.

Very vintage looking. I like it. Especially the hook it's tied on! Sorry to hear about the poor fishing conditions, if you could please, send some wet weather this way... although I don't think it works like that.

Dave - No worries. The photos are fine. One of the things you may want to keep in mind, when photographing with an iPad, is that there is a minimum required focal lenght. If the subject is closer than this length, the lens can not focus on the subject. If you look closely at your second photo, you will see that your hand is in perfect focus while the fly appears to be just a little to near the lens to be in focus. I've used my ipad for photographing things, but learned to hold it back a little further, then crop the finished image.

Like I said. No worries. Just trying to offer something that has helped me with the iPad.

Now get back to tying! I am looking forward to seeing more of your creations. Your a natural!

We had the same sort of year, not quite as bad, here in Southeast Texas. Things finally dried out in July. We are currently sitting at 35" (89 cm) of rain for the year. Of course, now the temps are in the 97 to 105 deg F range!
September is normally our wettest month. If I start gurgling when I type....

I like the fly. As a matter of personal preference, I would probably have shortened the wing to just behind the bend. Especially with the abrupt bend of the sneck hooks. A round bend hook can give the appearance that the shank is longer than it is, and tolerate a longer wing.
Again, this is a personal preference. I don't know what the historical wing length would be for this fly.
