New hooks, thanks hank!
Hook. Mustad sneck long shaft #16
Silk. Pearsall's emerald green
Body. Hare's ear thicker at thorax
Wing. Coot primary folded (as best I could)
Legs. Snipe outer covert, pulled under thorax and lashed!! Legs trimmed like in pritt's book.
I was fishing a version of this the other evening tied with primrose silk and mole fur.
Very effective I must say. A big thanks to hank and his transatlantic hook service!!
Hope you like it, more to come soon.

That is very fly-like in appearance, Dave, and I'm not surprised that it has produced for you. This fellow Pritt you speak of must know a thing or two .

Dave, take a look at the bottom of page one of this thread. http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6370.
I'd say your were on your way to something great. Nice fly. Thanks for sharing it.

Hi I like the look of the legs like I've done, just kinda throw a figure 8 around em and just snip em off . The more randomly the better. Does anyone think the hook shank is too long? Thanks William for the link! Interesting..... Must get my thinking cap on

Kind of depends on what kind of aquatic insect you were aiming to represent as to if the hook shank is too long.
If you feel it is, you can always tie a smaller body on these hooks. Finish wrapping the thread down to just above the point and come back up, or tie Clyde/Tummel style.

I was thinking that this pattern could represent a trapped blue winged olive of some sort or a caddis. I tend to fish it up stream dead drift. I'd like to do the wings a bit neater but this is harder than it looks. For now I'm happy with my results as I've only been tying for around a year. At the moment I'm concentrating on salmon fishing as the river are swollen due to the beautiful summer weather we here in Ireland usually get!!
Cheers

Troutmaddave, Howdy;
A good book for your Salmon fishing knowledge bank and for some good
flies to use might be T.C. Kingsmill Moore's "A Man May Fish". He dosen't just
hunt Salmon, does quite a bit of the Lough and trouts as well.

Hank,
Read that book! Brilliant read. He had a very minimalist approach to fly selection. He recommended only a few go-to patterns, instead of boxes and boxes of them. So what do we do with all the flies that we tie. I'm thinking of sorting my boxas out by river, not by type!
