October Flame Caddis Emerger
Another cool fly I found on Steve's Softhackle Journal. Few things I know less about than fishing flies on the swing and October Caddis, although I have seen the bugs and fished dries (unsuccessfully) for trout; neat pattern, though.
hook - Dai Riki 899 #8
thread - MFC 8/0 rusty brown
rib - small wire copper
abdomen - 2/3 orange sparkle 1/3 sulphur yellow dubbing mix
thorax - mallard flank fluff dyed rust
wing - fox squirrel tail
antennae - turkey tail fiber
hackle - furnace (unless you have access to radioactive, mutant hen of a sizeable proportion, get one of the webbiest ones you can find on the top/backside of a lower-grade rooster cape)
Regards,
Scott

I have a soft spot for October caddis. This looks right. The body to wing proportions are just right. Very nice Scott.

Scott - Steve is a member of this forum too (screen name "UC Steve"). I hope he sees your post and chimes in. Beautifully tied fly, btw.

Nice one, Scott. Make sure to post over on FAOL for the guys who hit the Idaho Fish In in September. The October Caddis hatch around Lowell, ID is the reason for going.

Thanks guys. I did post the SBS for the fly over on FAOL; didn't generate much notice. Whatever.

Scott, the OFCE is beautifully tied. Perfect. I am flattered that you would tie this so well. Where do you plan to fish it?

There's a few streams in western MT that have decent populations; was going to try there this fall. Again, thanks for devising such a neat pattern.
