mash barb, wrap shank with non-tox; cover with thread, tie in rib

tie in some peacock herl

Image

tie in Uni-stretch; wrap to 2/3 mark, tie off/trim

pull peacock forward; tie off but don't trim

Image

counterwrap abdomen with wire; helicopter end, cover with thread wraps

tie in hackle by tip

Scott - Thank you for another brilliant SBS tutorial. That fly is a thing of beauty, and the tying is equally impressive. I think we are channelling some of the same energy. Earlier today I was playing around with nymphs tyed with peacock herl dorsal stripes and thoraxes. When I looked at the tutorial, it seemed like serendipity.

I'd fish this with confidence...

ScottP. Howdy;

Good lookin' fly. Truly ...

Question, When you did the bit with the hurl and the hackle, did yo fold
the hackle over the hurl so's to have the hurl covered with the hackle ???
However ya did it it sure looks a winner.

Hank,

I didn't run scissors along both sides of the the quill like I normally do to fold hackle, but stroking the fibers (with wet fingers) against the peacock herl pretty much accomplished the same thing.

Scott

Great effect with the herl/hackle wrap, Scott.
