Silvey's Soft Serve Bead Flav SBS

Might be something worth swinging before the hatch gets going. Sorry for the dirty fingernails; just finished installing rear struts and sway bar bushings on the son's car.


hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 dark olive
rib - UTC 140 hopper yellow (doubled/twisted)
tail - partridge dyed olive
body - dubbing olive
wing - hen hackle tips dun
bead - 3 mm black
hackle - partridge dyed olive/dun hen


mash barb, slide on bead; start thread, tie in rib, wrap to bend

measure (shank length) some partridge fibers; tie in/trim butts

dub thread/dub tapered body

twist rib, counterwrap; tie off/trim

measure (a bit past the bend) a pair of hen hackle tips; tie in, cover butts with a bit more dubbing, half hitch x 2/trim thread

push bead against body, restart thread in front

prep partridge, tie in by tip; sweep fibers back while winding, tie off/trim

Scott, I very rarely put a bead on a soft-hackle, but you've done it so well in this case it's something that would make a nice difference when there's just nothing going on up top. This could easily be a killer Green Drake if it were sized up for the Eastern water. Nice tie.
