Found this one on a French site; I'll have to get my son to translate for me. Made a few mods due to materials at hand - grizzly instead of CDL for the tail (don't got none) and hen pheasant breast for mallard (2700 miles away; also like the markings on the pheasant). Cool fly; change colors to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
tail - grizzly
abdomen - goose biot yellow
hackle - dun
collar - hen pheasant breast

mash barb, start thread, wrap to point above barb and create a small bump

Image

even tips on a clump of hackle barbs; measure (shank length) and tie in

tie in (moistened) biot, notch side down; wrap to 50% mark, tie off/trim

tie in hackle; wrap forward (leave one hook eye width behind eye)

prep pheasant breast feather, tie in by tip

take a few turns, tie off/trim, SHHAN

Took it for a test drive later in the morning; March Browns and grey drakes are supposed to be out and about, neither of which this one resembles but all I need is one stupid fish.

headwaters (open for business in 3 weeks)

from here on, we're legal

stupid fish found (biggest cutt I've ever caught on this water; maybe a run-up?)

I've played with that style before. Both with hackle at the thorax and palmered. Only had luck with a tiny palmered one that resembled a Griffith's Gnat. Glad to see your experience was different. I like the style. Great photos and that cut is a beaut!

Excellent! I'm like Carl on this one, love the style but never had much luck with it. I'll probably have to give this another go!

Beautiful pictures too, Scott :) I'm jealous.

Thanks guys. Remember, the most important step is to find a stupid fish.

Scott - If you use The Google Chrome browser, it will automatically translate the French websites. There are several European websites I visit and use Chrome to do the translation. It's not perfect, but I can generally understand the full meaning behind the translated text.

Nice tutorial and stretch of water. Thanks for taking us along.

Found a duck breast feather while taking a walk; decided to try tying a March Brown (dun tail, dark tan biot body)

Scott, I meant to try this style a while ago when we were in a Jingler phase, but never go to it. This has a lot going for it and I can see why it presented well in those conditions. Such special water you have there. I like the followup as well. Maybe I will get to try some of these this season. Nice SBS.
