The Backstop Caddis, originated by Paul Slaney, is a caddis emerger pattern which is often fished in tandem with a bushy dry fly, or as a sub-surface pattern by itself.

Hook: Tiemco 2499SP #14-18
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, tobacco
Veiling: Z-lon, silver
Underwing: CDC, natural
Wing: Deer hair, sparse
Thorax: Squirrel - in split thread

This is an intriguing pattern Hans.
Orderly roughness came to mind. So too did calling it the Disembodied Caddis.
By the way, what happened to the body?

You can be sure there will be a rugged Kiwi version appearing on the Mataura River soon.......

A body addition would have added mass and bulk, without adding effectiveness. Less is more - bit like on North Country Spiders 8-)
