I tie a similar fly, which is very productive at times, but I keep coming back to this post. Your fly is so well designed and beautifully tied, I'm going to have to tie some of these up and relegate mine to the back bench.

Its hard to beat the translucence of snowshoe.

What material did you use for the red body? Is that dyed pheasant?

I’m already excited to hear about your upcoming fishing.

Ray... the body is white Semperfli nano silk colored with Copic marker "copper"... it is wound on the hook, tied in a BWO died turkey biot... then covered the thread with uv resin, wrapped the biot and set the resin... go to Ohlie's flies and check out his "u midge" and you'll see the technique... If I could take decent photos, I'd try and do a sbs...but I just don't have the ability to do decent macro shots.
The top photo has a fiery brown died "pelican" biot courtesy of Variant...its wound on Copic colored thread in yellow ochre...sorry for the out of focus photos..

Plan to fish tomorrow with this fly... hope the fish cooperate...

I fish a lot DHE's up here, usually in #14-#16; I like this pattern. God, knows I've got enough rabbits feet hanging around. Great tutorial, Ray.

Well as the saying goes... man plans, god laughs.... our stretch of the Middle Deschutes upon which the March Browns were just getting going depends upon irrigation season and water withdrawal upstream to make our stretch wadable and fishable. Naturally, the day before we plan to hit those March Browns an irrigation canal failed, causing a ceasation in water pumping from the river to the canal. Thus, our stretch was back to the high, before irrigation flows...300 cfs from 75 cfs... so there goes the bugs, and it will be some time before we can get back to that stretch... doubt the MB's will still be there..

Maybe my variant of your HBE will imitate something else...
