Bird’s Nest

Hook – Mustad S80-3906, S82-3906B or equivalent, size 8-16

Thread – Tan or brown

Tail - Barred imitation lemon wood duck fibers

Ribbing – Gold or copper wire

Body – Hares ear dubbing

Legs - Barred imitation lemon wood duck fibers

Head - Hares ear dubbing

I substituted imitation lemon wood duck feathers to preserve my limited supply of the real lemon wood duck feathers. The fish will never know the difference.

One my favorite all around nymph patterns. Very effective fly.

Nice slick body. This is one I will have to tie.

One of my favorite wet flies. I’ve never understood why this was designed as a Caddis pattern. I’ve always used it more for mayfly hatches.

When I was using the Birdsnest, and Tabou Caddis, I treated them as attractor patterns.

They seem to work durring any hatch.

Norm,

Has a great "buggy" look!

What technique did you use for tying in the legs? They are nicely distributed around the fly,
similar to what you would see with wrapping a hen hackle around the hook.

Thanks- Ken

The RIT color maple brown sugar.
