Dog Days

The Dog days of Summer have arrived. At least, for me they have. Tricos, and Caddis usually save my day.
I have a Coq De Leon hen cape. I love looking at the large breast feathers. They are mottled to perfection. The one pain in the back side is, to tie traditionally, they would be appropriate for a size 2/0 Soft Hackle. I use a technique shown to me by Colorado fly tier Charlie Craven to use these large feathers to tie down to size 20. The draw back is, for me , the heads are a tad ugly.
These flies have a tail of CDL Rooster, and a Collar of CDL hen. They are size 16 and dubbed in Muskrat from the darkest fur of the pelt.
Swinging soft hackles during the Dog Days is a treat. After all that has been written in books, and on the internet, it amazes me at how few fly fishermen implement this way of fishing.
