Re: Cranefly Larva
I think a lot of it is in choice of materials. When Wayne posted his bug gut caddis I ordered some of the material to tie a few. There were two types and I bought them both. The Kyley's Nymph Skins Latex is very opaque, even when stretched fairly thin, Great in some applications where I don't want the underbody to show. The Kyley's Nymph Skins Translucent Bug Gut is exactly that, very translucent, almost too much so in some cases. With a coat of Solarez or other coating it really allows the underbody to show up and gives a nice halo around it.

Re: Cranefly Larva
I couldn't have answered that better Ron. The underbody color with the Bug Gut is important. Try White.

Wayne - These are outstanding. Hyper realistic larva patterns. You are really nailing the coloration and general profiles on these imitations. Kudos.
PS - I second the tutorial suggestion.
