Body Weave Nymph

It is possible, using an easy material weaving process, to create an interesting body pattern for soft hackle flies. Here are a couple shots of a soft hackle nymph made using strands of embroidery thread. The same process using other materials on differing hooks will produce a virtually unlimited variety of mayfly/stonefly patterns as well.
Hook: Mustad C49S, Size #16
Thread: Uni 8/0, camel
Body: Two strands of DMC embroidery thread #838 (dark brown) and one strand of DMC embroidery thread #841 (tan) woven back to front
Thorax: Hare's poll in dubbing loop
Hackle: English grouse upper covert

Bill,
This is a beautifly nymph. The body weave provides really nice segmentation, and color separation between the top and bottom of the fly. I'm sure the color shift would be very enticing to fish, as the fly tumbles in the current.
Lovely work, as always...

Looks great. Have never tried woven bodies. Will have to see if I'm coordinated enough.

Yet another fine example of your unlimited talents behind the vice! The pattern above is simply amazing! Ray said it best so, all I can say is "ditto"! Wow! I am so glad you are our friend!

Howdy All;
The knot used is referred to as a "Cobra Stich Knot" a member of the sinnet knot
family.

If the look is familiar it's basically the same as the lanyard used by gym teachers and lifeguards
at swimming pools (the boxy section).

I have to second this. Oliver shows the viewers step by step on how to make a weave.
Tie2fish, all I can say is, I'm not worthy to be on the same forum with you. That fly is truly Smithsonian quality. It needs to be in an exhibit.
Beware though, I am going to try to copy your fly. I don't think I'll be anywhere as good as you because I never have done a weave before, but I'm willing to ridicule myself until I get better at it.
