Excellent! You've tyed enough to share! :D (kidding/humor)

Can you give us the recipe? I think these would work like a charm on steelhead. Certainly worth a try...

Ray, I used them on #6-#8 for Steelhead. They make a nice steelhead nymph, just keep them short and stout.

John

As you may know, JB taught me his Pink Squirrel mixture and how to tie his flies many years ago. The original dubbing was a mixture of grey squirrel fur, Lureflash Amber Antron and Olive Ice Dubbing with the tails, and collar shown in the enclosed pics (plus red copper wire and black thread). A couple years ago, JB added a 4th material to his dubbing and I promised that I wouldn't divulge it.

That being said, the original 3 materials in the dubbing still work well. I used to use Mustad 3906 hooks, crimping down the bard but a bunch of years ago, I switched to Daichi #1550. I think the smashed barbs on the Mustad hooks are higher than on the Daichi and I was getting too many "long releases" when using the Mustad hooks.

I also mix up alternate dubbings using the same materials except changing the fur....natural hare's ear, dark hare's ear, olive hare's ear, black squirrel, etc. and then use the same tails, wire, collar, etc.

I'm out of town for several days. Drop me a PM with your name and address and when I start tying Pink Squirrels again, I'll send some to you, ok?

Just a reminder to the Driftless Cheeseheads (from a FIB), that you better getting tying some as the season reopens soon!

Pink Squirrels seem to catch Trout in any water. Pools, riffles, slow runs, weedy water. Fished deep, fished shallow, works everywhere. — William Schlafer, in a speculative discussion about why this pattern is effective, The Pink Squirrel Theory
