Like everything else I've seen come from your vise, Karsten, these look simply deadly.

Karsten, another killer set of hare's ears. I like your dark, spiky dubbing. I haven't tied these for this year, but I should probably do that soon.

Shaggy, scruffy and buggy!
(and I mean that as a sincere compliment)
What more could you want in a fishing fly? Very well done.

Thanks boys, glad you approve of my scruffy miscreants, I love tying and fishing these patterns. Truth be told they are probably my favorite flies. I also tie a very simple version that is basically a carrot shaped hares ear dubbed body with a wire ribbed abdomen, I'm sure Jeff would approve of it, seeing it has no appendages or wingcase

Karsten, your hare's ear nymph's spiky texture look like a few rows of my hare's ear flymphs, but I seem to tie my hare's ear nymphs with a little more fuss and less action. I know better, and the truth is I rarely choose a HE nymph when I'm on the water, but I always carry them, and I tie them in neat little rows, but I know if I looked over my box with my tippet in my mouth, looking for the right combination, I would definitely be more prone to choose one of these. I can tie buggy flies. I tie a hare's ear birdsnest that is a mess and don't fish it as often as I should either.
It's odd that I don't tie more HE nymphs with the same vigor and vitality as these you've shown. I'm quite inspired. This is something that needs to be dealt with right away. Thanks for the nymph intervention. Cheers, mate.

That one sounds about perfect, shove a copper tungsten bead up front and you have a numf I hold very dear...... but these others you show here are not too shabby I guess.

Karsten, it is a bit like cricket. You can load your team up with all the "flash" embellishments you want, but sometimes a plain Jane will up and kick your butt.
Now when you get to the test match stage of fishing when water is skinny calm and warm and the trout fussy as heck, then the embellishments can shine (and have a first innings lead of a couple of hundred
), but for rough and tumble- rough and ready can win out, kind of like "guide flies".
I have to be impartial, have a Tasmanian here at the moment, fishing skinny warm calm water........
Oh, and John, they are fine looking nymphs!
