When I fish here in the canals I use quite little nymphs to catch some Roach or Perch. And they stay most of the time right above the bottom lets say between 2 and 3 meters (3 yards), so all the nymphs has beads on their head.

Also here is purple in the winter just the right colour: ;)

Thread: Danville's 6/0 Claret
Head: 2.3 mm black bead
Body: dubbingbrush with purple dubbing and gold copper wire, thin.

I wonder what colour fish see at these depths? I suppose the water isn't that clear either? Guess the first fly/nymph shows better than the second when close to the bottom (being blueish).

Ruard - It is great to see you back at the dubbing block and at the vise again. Are you getting some quiet time during the holidays? Is that a recent fishing photo?

Ruard, I always like seeing your flies and especially the catches snatched from your canals. So interesting to watch you tune up you very successful patterns over the years. Thanks for posting these. You make excellent use of the wire dubbing brushes for lively flies that drop down deep. Very nice.

DD I do not know what the fish see, sometimes the water is quite clear, but if I think they must see something in the depth's I can use a fly with an phosphorescent bead.
