Nothing wrong with catching a mess of bull gills or slab size crappie on a light rod. That fly will do the trick. One of your own or a borrowed pattern?

Fillets in beer batter, fried to a golden brown, home made slaw, hush puppies and sweet tea is a regal meal. There are some bream ponds around Ft Bragg, NC that I have left a mark on.

I sort of made it up from spare parts. Nothing too original.

Heck yeah! That looks like a blast to fish with.

I love the positioning and length of the legs. It looks like they will way around seductively as it drops thru the water.

Who hasn't fished for Bluegill/panfish

Time Honored phase for development for mankind.
It's how I (sorta), learned to fly cast. IMO, there are most likely
a lot of folks that keep their casting 'skills' sharp while chuckin'
panfish bugs when trouts are not available or off limits.

My girlfriend. I did her a dirty and threw her into the deep end of the pool first time I took her fly fishing. Steelhead in November. Smallmouth the following Spring. She has yet to catch a bluegill.

First fish I ever caught on a fly rod was a slab blue gill in a private pond in Durham, NC. Seemed anything with rubber legs would do the deed. Only problem was the pond belonged to a Frat brother from Duke, and I had to sneak in because those Dookies didn't want any Tarheel Delta Sigs in their pond. Took me a long time to find my way to Oregon, only 40 something years later.

You guys are singing my song with the Bream Bug (DarrellP) and the stories all about! Yes, for many of us, Bluegills are where it started and for jokers like me, the love affair has not ended! Thank you all for sharing your experiences both on the water and in the kitchen! Fantastic!
