Chironomid

I think I may have came up with the greatest midge pupa/emerger ever! Hahaha or at least I think it looks pretty great. Dress the front section of angel hair with floatant so it hangs in the film vertically-ish and I think it will be a reaper.
Hook- straight shank of choice, 1xl
Gills- angel hair (silver) tied all the way down the shank and trimmed short at both ends.
Abdomen- claret thread
Thorax- peacock herl (a very thin skinny herl)
Rib- counter ribbed with pearl tinsel then ribbed wit x-small black wire

Just change the thread color to match what works in your area. I want to get some 14/0 thread in yellow and olive and see if I can pull off the 3 color fade from red to yellow to olive on a tiny hook. Should be doable

T-12,
That's just a pretty stinking cool Chironomid pattern! It HAS to catch fish no matter where it's tossed! It is relatively new to you. Have you had more opportunities to test it out?
Thanks for sharing this jewel with us!
Doug

Unfortunately no. I've been out to try and test it on rainbows several times but everything is froze up solid. I guess I'm stuck waiting. If you notice this chironomid and my "suicide bomber" emerger are the same dressing, the emerger just uses CDC instead of poly yarn and is tied on a bigger curved hook. Other than that they are the same fly.
