Stripped Peacock Quill Bodies

My experience with UV resins is that they look great when the fly is first tied but 3-6 months later the coated part of the fly has turned fuzzy and milky (not clear). Have you used this particular product long enough to comment on this?

The Solarez product I was referring to keeps it clarity and strength. Products like Loon, Deer Creek over time do in fact become cloudy. Solarez is the only one I've found to be consistently good.

If I have time when I'm home - I'll mess around with some flies and photos to post here high-lighting what I'm describing.

How do you get your Darbee Dun collars to sit back so neatly?

I haven't been able to replicate this result by folding back the hackle--so what's your secret?!

I’m not sure, but it looks a bundle of feather fibers are wrapped around the hook rather like you might start a deer hair body.

Barry - that is the best description I’ve heard yet! The key is to have a tapered base underneath your bundle of fibers. Obviously the steeper the incline, the wider the flare. On some patterns I tie a very steep base, and leave a groove on the top - when I wrap the barbs down, it stands straight out and looks like a normal wrapped hackle. This allows me to use those large feathers at the bottom of his neck, that we would normally use for streamers.

He he! I would love to take credit for the fly but in fact it’s Dana’s. He sent me a couple of his flies and they are immaculate
