Emerging Caddis

Post by DUBBN » Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:18 pm

I am seriously excited to fish this pattern near Mothers Day.

On the swing and to rising fish.

I have some work to do, to make it pretty, but I am seriously excited.

Size 14

For my area size #14 would be too large a hook, unless it is at least 3x short.
Size 14 was perfect for me last year on the Roaring Fork and Gunnison Rivers. When the trout were swarming after the emerging caddis they did not seem too concerned with the exact size of the natural.

I use a lot of sub size 18 patterns in my fly fishing, but I always try to use the largest size hook possible. No, a size 14 2X to 3X long will be just fine. I target the dumber fish in the rivers. Perhaps that is why I can get away with it.

I like it DUBBN. It should do really well. I bet it'll work great on the Arkansas and many other rivers here in Colorado for Mothers Day.

Psssst, it slayed on the Roaring Fork today. I used it as a nymph, but hey. Size 14 is just dandy.
