I would agree with the others, go for seals fur.
Personally I would have a couple of shades of olive, black, claret and a couple of shades of brown.

Re: Where have all the Soft Hackle Tiers gone?
I get by when I can but it seems that if I'm not working then I'm either tying flies or sleeping but no work tomorrow, its fishing instead.

Re: Peter Ross Dabbler
Nice looking fly, the title to the post caught my attention. Several years ago I tied alot of Irish wet flies and I did a Peter Ross dabbler but it was different to this in that I based on the original using black hackle and teal for the wing. Worked to.

Re: How Would You Have Approached it?
I think I had this situation a couple of times a few years ago. Both times I had to use different techniques. The first time I went for the muddler on the top dropper and a hackled greenwells glory on the point. The middle dropper had a smallish claret dabbler. The second time success was achieved w...

Re: Tying in Hackle
There are as many answers to this age old question as there are tyers.
I personally prefer to tye in game hackles by the tip and hen hackles by the butt although hen hackles may be tied in by the tip if I want smaller fibres and cann't get smaller hackles.

Re: Alpaca!
I haven't checked in a few weeks but for some reason this thread coincides with talk about alpacas last week when my brother mentioned that someone he worked with had these beastes. I said that I was after some and he said he would ask, I didn't expect any seeing as though she sells it but I was wro...

Re: Demonstration of Dubbed Silk Body Technique
Thanks for the video, think I'll have to make one of those boards during the next week or so.
I think I got some similar tweezers from the fly tyers dungeon a few months ago.

Nice! I need to tie a few of those up for Slovenia in July. Is there any chance of a materials listing?

Re: Preparing Bird Skins
Excellant post and one of the best I've seen on the subject although I would ditch the razor blades in favour of an old blunt knife (lock knife or ordinary table knife (wash before returning though )) as there is less chance of cutting the skin.

Re: Fur thoraxes on vintage flies
