Re: Rods for fishing flymphs and soft hackles
I spent a few years fishing flymphs with 10' 3 wts and have spent 24 years using everything from 7'6" glass rods to tenkara rods, but my favorite over the past decade has been a medium action 9' 4 wt. Not only is it a perfect all around rod, suitable to cast dries when the time is right, but it...

Re: Block, silk and a fine wax.
Doug, Lance Hidy made those decks of cards to match his father’s cards in size and paper weight. I typically use a smaller card, the size of a baseball card that’s about 120lb Bristol paper. I like that I can buy collector sheets for cards and they store easily. I love seeing what you guys are doing...

Re: Tying pre dubbed bodies
You guys are all very kind. Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I have thoroughly enjoyed making them available. It’s always good to have new folks exploring the traditional techniques. I’ll be glad when we can all get together for a tying event to swap trade secrets again.

Re: Tying pre dubbed bodies
I’ve found that many things waxes work fine for the bodies. Not the dubbing waxes that are soft and sticky, but most cake style waxes will bind the silk and dubbing fibers in a cord when stored on the cards. The best ones are kind of hard/hardened when you pick them up but if you take a small pea si...

Re: Hackle Pliers
The one I've found most useful for smaller hackles is the basic Stonflo model. Your J. Dorin ones look nice William. Tim, I'm not sure what I would do if I ever wore out the J Dorins I use. I have half a dozen and if I ever found them available again, I'd probably snag them. I haven't seen them in ...

Re: What rod do you use?
For most of the week in Roscoe I fished my 10' 3 wt greys streamflex (first gen). Before leaving I had the pleasure of casting John Shaner's 10' 3 wt Hardy Zenith. I love my rod and don't intend to buy another...but if I were going to, that rod would be a serious want. I can't say if it was John's ...

Re: Soft Hackle Patterns for Madison & Firehole
Here is a link to the IBF White Miller Soft Hackle I tied when we had the Flymph Forum Rendezvous there in 2014. It has proven effective for me since then on the Firehole. https://live.staticflickr.com/1748/41668282714_3ebf1ab3e3_z.jpg B0061801 by William Lovelace , on Flickr https://flymphforum.co...

Re: PT Jingler (pheasant tail stiff hackle variation)
Ray, no one has communicated the process of tying a fly better. This really is an essay and damn nice pattern.
