Re: Durability
Durability is very important to me... i too fish the deep water, with deep flies, and loosing them is part of the game. However, i can't help that. What i can help is now many fish can be caught prior to having to retie on the same pattern. I too find the week point of my wets is the hackle, because...

Re: Journals
I've gotta say, that i remember the ones that got away more than the ones that land in the net. That one in particular was brutal because i had an audience.... he didn't know he was hooked by the time he was within arms reach, but took off when he saw the net, and it was more than the 4x tippet coul...

Re: Journals
I do and I love it. It is a great point of reference primarily for flows, flies, fish, weather and notes of the day. I keep my entries short and sweet so it never becomes a burden, but a quick reference point. Although, I am not sure how important it is, since, as an example, I will never forget the...

Re: Olives
Since most will agree that fish are oportunistic feeders, i subscribe to the belief that fish see what they want to see when it is dangling off their nose. I know that if they are eating #18 olive emergers, they probably wont eat a #10 royal coachman dry (but they might :D ), however, i think that c...

Re: Hackle Availability
I agree, fly shops don't have an easy go of it, and I for one am happy that they found a nice windfall. I am not sure why the lack of dry fly hackle should offend people on a flymph board, but maybe I am missing something. I just saw an interesting article about how the fashion industry is falling o...

Re: Wire Bodied 1250's
I would be happier to see them hanging out of a fishes mouth! Make sure to share some pics then too. Great ties and good feedback!?

Re: Tinsel Underbodies...
Well, i can't speak for Hans, but here are a few things i've learned over the years. 1. If you're tying in over a tail, or going to have a rib, or if there is any material other than thread, make sure that it extends as far forward as possible, and preferable as far as the body that you plan to buil...

Re: one fly and one hook
Hi guys, new to the board, but have really enjoyed it so far. I don't make much fuss over the hooks personally, but as for a fly, it would be Ellis Emerging Pupa. http://www.stoneriveroutfitters.com/browse.cfm/hatching-pupa/4,455.html. I love everything about it, especially in a size 14 or 16. The s...
