Re: Spymph

Exemplary, as we have come to expect from your vice. ;)
I have used duck flank in a similar style. Perhaps more suited to smaller sizes and perhaps a weaker "fluming" of the fibres at right angles to the individual stem, but it is yet another variation.

Re: A few more numphs of a similar theme...

Karsten, it is a bit like cricket. You can load your team up with all the "flash" embellishments you want, but sometimes a plain Jane will up and kick your butt. Now when you get to the test match stage of fishing when water is skinny calm and warm and the trout fussy as heck, then the emb...

Re: Rhyacophila

I liked the "Mark 1" version, but the "Mark 2" just looks to be that wee bit closer to the original grub shown in between.
I would be happy to fish either, or both and let the trout decide.

That one sounds about perfect, shove a copper tungsten bead up front and you have a numf I hold very dear...... but these others you show here are not too shabby I guess.

True, Karsten, but I am wondering if being the local vet in that neck of the woods also qualifies you as the local doctor, or maybe undertaker? :P

Karsten, you never accidentally flicked over to the Discovery channel and catch some of those good ole folk that dig for Ginseng or the ones that make 'Shine?
And WE speak funny? :o

Jus tie two materials wif copper wire and Hare fur. ;)

You do realise it is only those common North Islanders that talk like that eh?

Re: One of my fav numfs ;)

Yeah, nah, looks like it would do the buznuz.
Everything a nymph of this type should be- a mess on a hook with some subtle flash of ribbing.
Typical bit of Aussie over the top extravagance with the wingcase/legs and hackle fibres for a tail........ but it should still work. :P

Re: Hook for the Red Hackle?

Grant, you might be on to something....... but then again it may depend more on the base material being dyed as to how more/less effective it is as a tying material. I mean you do not see a heck of a lot of natural silk, or natural Seal called for in many fly dressings for instance. I have no doubt ...
