You don't need many pictures with a story like that. Thanks for sharing the tale. Great patterns too.

Re: Adams Flymph
Bill, another killer pattern. There are times when a fuller fly like this seems preferrable over something less meaty. w I tend to have more luck with fuller flies and tie most of my soft hackles kind of "fat". Great pattern, I should add this one to my box no doubt. Thanks for the idea!

THAT is a great looking fly. Well done. Love the dressing and the body flash. Nice work once again.

Re: Grizzly and Olive
I actually like it with Grizzly hackle and a brown tail. Like Ray says, should be a good damsel pattern or general searching pattern. That would do very well in the hills out here with all the brookies. Nice work.

Re: Scissors or knife?
Strictly good scissors here. Have tried all manner of blades and knives and tend to fall foul by either cutting too fine or close to the wrap threads and fraying them! Either that or dropping the knife (that just like buttered bread landing butter side down) sharp end first onto the concrete floor ...

Re: Scissors or knife?
I often will use my scissors as a knife. Using just one side as a blade to cut stuff that need to be delicate. If your scissors are sharp, it works quiet well. Sometime I just break my thread by pulling on it really hard and fast.
