Re: Leaders for Swing Wets

Agree, John, on the TroutHunter mono tippet as the best I can find. I start my leaders with 12" of Maxima Chameleon nail knotted to the line, but I use a 10' TroutHunter Finesse leader as the base, tapered to 5X, and add a 4' tippet of TH 6X. But then I am fishing primarily dries size 16 and sm...

Re: Harrop's Drake

Here's another developed specifically for the Henry's Fork because at the time the drakes are hatching the air is also filled with gulls which discourage surface takes. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r277/ewpeper/DSCN0162.jpg Dressing : Thread: Bennechi 12/0 olive Hook: #10 Dohiku 1XL light wire...

Re: Champagne Cork + Large Magnets = Fly Holder

Here's a very bad pic showing three corks attached to the granite base for my Regal. Bodkin is stuck in right hand one. You cannot see the magnetized needle in the center one that I use for picking up hooks. Left hand one is for finished flies. That white thing in the foreground is the cap to a pill...

Re: Champagne Cork + Large Magnets = Fly Holder

Wine corks are all over my tying area to hold bodkins, flies, hooks, anything I can stick in 'em. I use small pieces of adhesive-backed velcro applied to the cork and surface so I can vary the locations.

Re: White Miller Caddis

Marvelously balanced pattern Charlie. The proportions and color choices are so well done. These will serve you well in Yellowstone. They make me daydream of fishing the stretch below Biscuit Basin... Post the results of how your white miller soft hackles do. We were further up on the Firehole and h...

Re: Your Most Productive flies in 2015

I also have whipped up a couple dozen CDC & Elk, size #16 to really put it to the test this year. Eric, Hans and others keep praising the CDC & Elk pattern so I have decided I have to give it a serious try this year. I'm with you, John, on putting the CDC & Elk to the test this year. He...

Re: Your Most Productive flies in 2015

I was kinda stymied on thr "productive" question because I encounter rising fish most every day, and fishing blind on the Henry's Fork (because of highly mobile fish and few classically "productive" spots because flows are relatively consistent in speed, depth and structure throu...

Re: Your Most Productive flies in 2015

Here's my #1 for 2015 . . . as well as 2014 and 2013 and maybe 2012. Hans Weilenmann's CDC & Elk. (Photo and fly by Hans) http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r277/ewpeper/cdcelk.jpg This fly has proved to be absolutely remarkable, taking some of the most difficult fish I've ever cast to and doing...
