Re: How Leisenring tied the Tups
The tups a fly innovated by one R.S.Austin of Devon County, so far as known records it was assumed that he was responsible for passing this on the Skues. It has always been one of my favorite soft hackles and dressed with a fine rooster hackle a dry. There are many known variations, both related to ...

Re: Quill Spiders...
Nice, There is a lot to be said for quill bodied flies, am am also a lover of feather herl bodied flies, particularly for mayfly imitations, emerges, duns and spinners. There is a famous Welsh fly by the name of the Usk Nailer, which was at one time my local river, this fly and its variations is a k...

Re: Dibbling the top dropper
Thats about right, had some run ins with them also when l lived in Chicago, little Hitlers. I was not allowed to plant shrubs in my own yard, and l owned the dam house and property, that was just one of the reasons. Then they sent me a ticket for a fine becuase l ignored them, told em to shove it yo...

Re: 10' Rods
Thats a great rod you have there, the 3wt version is also same, if you can get one, they are in short supply at this time. Saw the guys at Dorber the other day in Walmart, Ray told me he is doing real well with his 10fts. Ray did build me a tournament rod recently, for 5wt line class. I have a quest...

Re: Dibbling the top dropper
Mike, You hit the nail on the head there so far as how many who become involved with angling organisations have little interest in the primary reason for why the club was formed. l have been involved in some serious arguments and disputes with the likes of that kind. Much of this related also to how...

Re: vices.
Further regarding why l choose to have my vice set up the way l do. FYI. In the 60s and into the late 70s l made my living more or less as a commercial fly tyer. That amounts to two things, one being able to tie flies fast and secondly in my case high end quality flies. The vice l at that time use i...

Re: vices.
Hands on in my book gives way more control during tensions of wind, and setting angle of hackle display than the rotary, be it head or palmered hackles.
I would argue also that it is way faster than using the rotory action.
At the end of the day if it works for you its good.
