Hi, folks. Been a while since I posted but I have been keeping up. Leaving in 5 days for my annual northern New Mexico trip so I'm getting excited.
Will most any commercial wax harden up enough after a day or so to hold the silk together? Or, I guess I should ask, will ANY commercial wax?
Thanks,
Joe

Re: Mike Conner
Absolutely GREAT to hear from you again, Mike!
Thanks to you, I no longer "tie" flies, I "dress" them! It doesn't make my horrendous little creations look any better, but it does sound more refined and proper!
Again, please don't be a stranger!

Re: some size 20's
I used to try so hard to match my fly to the proper hook size and type so I could cover up as much of the shank as possible and still have a wide enough hook gap. The least amount of hook showing has got to be better.....right? Then I tied up a couple of Roy Christie's Copper Wire Hare's Mask and ca...

Re: Grizzly Hackle
I am not demeaning Denny and Conranch in any way at all. I don't want to imply that whatsoever. He has great materials and is a pleasure to deal with. It's just that I'm looking for a little different color in a grizzly hen cape. I have the black/gray grizzly hen cape from him, which I use a lot, an...

Re: Grizzly Hackle
William, Jim brought me a honey dun colored Whiting Herbert Miner hen cape a few years ago that is absolutely beautiful. It's so pretty I almost hate to pluck a feather off of it to use (notice I said "almost")! narcodog, The coloring of rooster with the more pronounced light and dark barr...

Re: Grizzly Hackle
Thanks, narcodog. I'll be placing an order with Jim shortly, but I still am interested in the specific brand and "model" that you and everybody else likes in wet fly grizzly hackle.
Just curious.

Grizzly Hackle
What is your favorite brand/type of wet fly grizzly hackle? I have some JV Hen from Conranch, and it is webby and great, but it is a darkish gray, not what I usually want for a grizzly hackle.
