Re: The 'red quill' in CO
You have, sir. I have 48 hours to tie. Packing is done, almost -- cane rods are last to be packed, strong tubes and carpet tubes, duct tape for all. Peace of mind for me. Re your suggestion, I have such patterns in box, and will use. Thanks. Hope Fork treats you well this summer. Say hey to Nelson s...

The 'red quill' in CO
Am heading to CO on Saturday for a cane conclave, and some fishng. My box of soft ones is filled, from tiny flymphs to shaggy Drake things. Thanks for the help, gents. Some ties are traditional, some are what they appear to be, hackles and hairs lashed forth. But they are buggy, and I have a good fe...

1st plovers for me, and silky too
My first ties with silk threads, my golden plover is broken in. In time for August CO. trip, Lyons cane conclave and RMNP streams I've never seen. New waters, new flies to cast. These aren't expert ties by any means. And they don't follow pattern specifics. I sat at the vise and began to go where th...

Re: Big silk (thread) inquiry here
...there I go, half hackled again. Of course the silk bod will get wet in the wa-wa, silly me. Thanks, I'll click on that discussion thread on thread.

Big silk (thread) inquiry here
Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a fisher, new to the soft hackle game. Thanks Mick. Hope to be a man of wealth, taste and of the soft hackle game. Now: tell me all about silk threads, everything. I have many examples of rod-wrapping silks from my roddy days, when I did small repairs on bamb...

Re: Plovered
Thank you, Roy. And btw, I am officially plovered, by mail. It's a beautiful thing. And they gave me the upper half of the damn head, too. The feathers are extremely interesting things, and upon examination in the sunlight of my porch I instantly understood its value to the fly tier. It's a marvelou...

Re: Plovered
Wunderful gents, many thanks. One facet of softies and the tying thereof -- sorry, my pet name for such flies -- is consideration of the feather. Much more so than the tyer who ties only the dry fly. As I was for many years. I always carried a flymph or two, but usually used them in lake fishing, so...
