Re: hook question
So, it's been 44 or 45 years since I went through all the fly fishing and tying books that the big city library could obtain for me and in reading, note taking and copying pictures with pencil and paper they all kinda ran together, read the flymph book twice, and went at the study of all fly related...

Re: mounting flies in shadow boxes, frames, etc
It may not do what you want and I don't recall where I saw it, so... fine soft wire such as in bag tie toothpicks or short stiff wires stiff card stock size of display box punch hole at each location that a fly will sit pass both ends of a 2" wire through the hole pass hook point through the lo...

Re: Smaller flymphs
Joe - artery clamp given to me by Mary Dette......still the best choice. In all honesty, I’m quite surprised that I don’t see more people using this, seeing as they are readily available. Dana Thanks for posting the picture, Theroe. It sure looks like an "I need that" item, but although I...

Re: Jim Leisenring's Iron Blue Nymph, tied by him
Giving a choice between scarlet and claret is strange to me, essentially red-orange or brown-red, not even close to same color in my eyes. Claret and maroon are much closer, I can see subbing one for the other.

Re: Stewart's Red Spider tied by Leisenring
That redish brown to ginger color is common in barnyard chickens, heritage of the red jungle fowl and it shouldn't hard to find a suitable sub. It is just that on my monitor the fly in the picture has the hackle almost the same color as the primrose thread, more of a cream or straw color. Thanks for...

Re: Pheasant Tail Soft Hackle
I don't often fish more than one fly anymore, but, when I did stiff mono and 3"-4" droppers were my choice, a short stiff dropper tied at right angles to the leader seldom tangled for me. One day I will try one of the inline methods of multiple flies.

Re: May fly Honey Dun a V.S. Hidy pattern.
That is a very nice fly, upstatetrout. NedZeppelin, I think fine tuning is only necessary as relates to size. Something like Old Hat, I used to tie the same basic pattern in several shades and with different colored threads, even different ribbing, variations to fit most possible needs, and when fis...
