Re: HOOK REVIEWS hopefully from many here on this forum
Kelly, According to what Mark L. told me the Mustad 94842 was one of the hooks Vern Hidy liked for flymphs. I also saw recently a discussion somewhere on the boards about the merits of the round bend Mustad R70 a good wet fly hook with a round bend. There are not many out there. Leisenring liked the...

Re: Lots to know
Thanks for the replies! My experience is tying mostly dry flies, some nymphs and streamers-a very few wet flies. I've never tied soft-hackles, so I guess it's time to try the silk. I will look into the Gossamer and the bobbin suggested. It should be an interesting trip.

Re: Heritage Hare & Grouse
Interesting, Ray! I once talked with Mark Libertone about his Little Dorothy. I found his fly site some time back and he suggested I come here to find out more. Anyway, he said he tied the Dorothy so the dubbed thorax kinda went back over the rear end of the fly to kind of veil it some as well. I gu...

Re: Heritage Hare & Grouse
Ray,
I really like this fly. Is there a reason why half the body is tinsel? It looks as though it would imitate a real insect, yet the tinsel use seems as it would make it more of an attractor pattern. How do you look at it?
Thanks,
Ernie

Lots to know
Hi,
I have been looking over the site, and there is so much to absorb. Just a quick question. I have been reading the information on Gossamer thread. Is it difficult to tie with?
Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Proportions?
Thank-you Klaas and William for more insight into this subject. I looks as though I will need some observing time as well as time at the vise.

Re: Proportions?
Thank-you, all, for your responses. Roadkill, thanks for the link to that site. It is great. I don't tie these flies myself, although I tie others. I've bought a few soft-hackles from Cabelas, and they work pretty good, but I can see there would be an advantage to tying your own. I may try a few. Er...

Proportions?
Hi,
This has probably been asked before, but are there proportions that one can go by when tying soft-hackles, flymphs and spiders? I know Catskill style dries have certain proportions associated with them, but do these flies?
Thanks,
Ernie
