Re: Grouse and Grouse
Thank you, REE, for your kindness, bud. I appreciate your thoughtfulness in suggesting I try your wool for a few soft hackle flies. I don't have the experience to draw on like you and some of the other guys so I rely on recipes for the most part. There are bound to be recipes on the internet which I...

Re: Grouse and Grouse
Thank you, Carl, for the ideas. I have mohair and have tied with it, I can't recall the fly I used it on as a substitute for another material which I didn't have at the time. Wools are great! So many options. Super tying Ron, those materials shine together. Tim, I’m really fond of alpaca and mohair ...

Re: Grouse and Grouse
Hi REE, What kinds of wool do you usually tie with? I picked up some wool they make those knit slippers with because it floats. However, I have never tried other kinds of wool. Where do you find the patterns for these wool flies? Because I don't have the hackle you used I would use Hungarian partrid...

This is the best forum I have ever run across. People sharing knowledge and materials, helping each other out. Ree and Bob are prime examples of this helping along with many others. It is a privilege to be a member of this forum.

Re: Peacock and Black - Black Spider
What size of fish do you catch on those tiny hooks? Normally, I use a 6x tippet but I have had Browns break me off so I had to move to a 4x tippet on streams that had large Browns in it. A 4x tippet wouldn't fit in flies that small even if I could tie them on.... .

What do you use to get fly down in water column
Hello, Over the years I have resisted using weighted flies, sink tip lines or lead shot on my leader. At this time of year many trout are in deeper pools and won't necessarily move too far for a meal. I was wondering what many of you use to get your fly down deeper. Perhaps there is a method that wo...

Re: Dun and Dun
Thank you, DUBBN, since I only tie down to a #16 then it seems like a 4B hackle would be fine. Because I order online and can't see the hackle it's difficult to gauge the size of the feathers prior to buying it. Thank you for your help. Dubbn, what size hooks can you tie on using the 4B hen feathers...
